In the current world, the internet plays a major role in day-to-day life. And a most significant part of the internet is Social media.

I also consume a lot of social media. Recently I got to know about a new social media platform through my friends called clubhouse.

The application was released in April 2020, but the hype increased later in the year. Initially, it was launched only on IOS devices.   

But early in 2021, the alpha exploration(developer) launched Clubhouse on Android. Because of the features of the application, it gains popularity.

Currently, Clubhouse is an invite-only Social media platform. This means to access the feature of the application, you need an invite from somebody on it.

Fact: The previous name of Clubhouse was Talkshow originally designed for podcasts.

 

Why Clubhouse is invite-only Social media?

Initially, they don't have the infrastructure to serve the demand, and because of popularity, demand was increasing daily. 

But in April company held a Series C round of funding. And they are going to remove invite-only after building good infrastructure.

The invite-only feature is one of the great features of the application because of which everyone wants to be on Clubhouse.

However, the main highlight of the application is an Audio-based social media platform.

Features

Rooms


One of the cool features of the clubhouse is rooms in which users can communicate with each other. Rooms are segregated into three categories based on Privacy level. Open rooms anyone can join this type of rooms; in Social rooms, the only user followed by a moderator can admit, and In Closed rooms to admit you need invite from moderators.

Rooms are divided into the stage, followed by the moderator and others in the room. The role moderator is assigned by the room creator. Moderator has the power to drag people on stage, mute them and remove them out of the room. Moderator has a green star on the profile photo in the room.

Every new entry into the room is assigned with the listener role. You can let the moderator know that you want to speak by raising hand, and then the mod will invite you to the stage. The user on stage are speakers and gain access to unmute themselves.

Events

Most of the discussions on Clubhouse occur unplanned. Events are planned/scheduled conversations in which users can name the event and scheduled it according to time and date. After creating an event, it will show in the bulletin section. Bulletin exhibits upcoming events, and you can get notified by clicking the bell icon. Bulletin has a calendar icon located at a top right bar on the discover wall.

Clubs

Clubs allow users to form a community by which they can communicate about any topics regularly.  The eligibility criteria for creating Clubs is the user at least hosted three rooms. Clubhouse manually approves clubs. One user can create/found only one club. The club is of two types open, where anyone can join a club and private. Club has a founder, member, and follower. For enrolling in the club, you need one of the founder's permissions.


What is so special about the Icon of the clubhouse?


The changing Icon of the clubhouse portrays the company's notion about the community. The currently used logo consists of a headshot of Dandara Pagu, who is an activist and producer.

The logo of Clubhouse changed quite a few times following list consist of names of people who appeared on the logo before Dandara.

Issue  


The absence of censorship in the application is a major concerning the reason for the government. A country like Oman. Iran, China, Jordan, Egypt, and U.A.E banned or blocked Clubhouse. The recent incident was in Iran; the Iranian phone corporation blocked the application on April 9, 2021.

Clubhouse record audio of rooms for investigation if any incident happen. In one case, after the room was ended, the recording gets deleted automatically. If the user enrolls and leaves after registering, the clubhouse stores their data. The clubhouse will implement the same monetization strategy as Facebook, which works on tracking the user data.

The clubhouse is competing with social media giants like Facebook, Twitter, Discord, and many more. In April of this year, Twitter entered into the discussion to buy Clubhouse for $4 billion. But discussion ended with no acquisition.

The audio-chat platform had also conveyed that they were soon getting to release a payments service in India. As of now, the clubhouse payment service is out there only within us. The company's executive had conveyed that before releasing its payment service worldwide, the corporate wants to make sure that the experience would be smooth.

He added that the corporate plans to release the payments service only to a couple of countries outside us, including India. The most reason for it's because the app has become very fashionable within the country.

Introducing the payment service into the clubhouse for India would help the content creators monetize their content and, therefore, the information.

The clubhouse is treating India as the top market for the user base. In the later last decade, the number of Social media users in India increased, and the market of India has a large user base.

The pandemic aid clubhouse to grow forced millions of people into isolation and lockdown mode.

The idea behind Clubhouse has existed long before, and people got similar with the application, so indulge in the app. The app is easy to operate. There is no linguistic barrier. The only interface is in English. Users can talk in any language.
 

Conclusion

In such a short time span, mostly everyone knows about the clubhouse, which consumes regular social media. Word of mouth is mostly working for Clubhouse. Audio base helps the application to grow. The invite-only method was one the greatest strategy by which a certain hype is created around the Application. Clubhouse in India gaining popularity.
